The same rules most flatmates settle on, written down so nobody has to argue about them.
Everyone uses the kitchen, living room, hallway and shared bathrooms, so that part of the rent is divided by the number of people. It is the flat's total size minus the bedrooms.
The rest of the rent follows the floor plan: a 16 m² room pays for 16 m², a 10 m² room for 10. An en-suite bathroom counts as part of its room.
Two people in one room split that room's share between them, but each pays a full share of the shared space, because both of them use it.
A balcony or the quiet side of the building has no price per square metre. Agree an amount together: that room pays it on top, and everyone else pays a little less.
Shares are rounded to whole cents and the leftover cents are handed out one at a time, so they always add up to exactly the rent and bills.
